Cadillac XTS in Running to Replace Lincoln Town Car

2013 Cadillac XTS

2013 Cadillac XTS

It’s New Year’s Eve, and many party-goers will celebrate by riding in the back of a hired limousine. However, with the end of the Lincoln Town Car, many other cars, including the Cadillac XTS, are looking for ways to enter the livery market.

The Detroit News recently interviewed Gary Kessler, CEO of Cary International, the world’s largest livery company, to get his take on the transition. While Kessler said his fleet is still composed of 85% Lincoln Town Cars, replacing the older models is going to fuel the need for new alternatives.

According to Kessler, “We’re clearly at a watershed event. There isn’t a clear replacement for the Town Car. But the more people who are in this space, the more that is going to raise the bar on the vehicles from which we can choose.”

To be one the choices in the running, General Motors’ Professional Vehicles division is introducing a new livery package for the Cadillac XTS, GM’s new flagship sedan. The Cadillac XTS livery package will offer the Cadillac CUE system for navigation, power inverters for charging and using multiple mobile devices, window shades, and heated rear seats. Instead of paring down the amenities as is typically done for fleet vehicles, the XTS liver package will borrow from the Platinum Edition, leaving drivers and passengers wanting for nothing.

Cadillac spokesperson David Caldwell said, “We do see opportunity for Cadillac to grow in this space, and we’re pursuing it in a way that’s parallel to our overall growth as we elevate and expand our brand. The experience inside a Cadillac will reach the same standard in the livery environment as for an individual retail buyer.”

To see the luxury of the 2013 Cadillac XTS for yourself, visit Don Ledford Automotive Center in Cleveland. Our sales team will happily answer any questions about the XTS and any other Cadillac, including features, pricing and availability. Browse our inventory online, visit our Chattanooga area dealership, or call 423-476-1191 for assistance.

Thank you for a great 2012, and we look forward to serving you in 2013!

Cadillac ATS on List of 10 Best Engines

The 2013 Ward’s 10 Best Engines awards have been announced, and the turbocharged 2.0L I-4 that propels the new Cadillac ATS claimed a spot on the list.

Ward’s 10 Best Engines honors traditional gas engines at a time when fuel efficiency regulations make the competition among them tougher and add pressure from hybrids and plug-ins. They considered 40 engines from 16 different car makers, and selected winners based on factors like refinement, fuel efficiency, innovation, and power. For the second year, half of the engines are four-cylinder, while only 7 years ago, the four-cylinder engine wasn’t even mentioned.

The 2.0L turbocharged engine in the Cadillac ATS is boasts the highest output of any GM production engine, with 272 horsepower, or 136 horsepower per liter. The aerodynamic design and lighter weight of the ATS also help give it a zero-60 time of 5.9 seconds and estimated fuel economy of 21/31 city/highway mpg.

Other impressive features of the engine in the Cadillac ATS include the twin-scroll turbocharger with air-to-air intercooler, jet-spray piston cooling in the two-stage variable displacement oil pump, four valves per cylinder with continuously variable timing, and the forged-steel crankshaft with modular balance shaft system.

According to Tom Murphy, executive editor of WardsAuto.com, “The 2.0L turbo 4-cylinder is a stout performer that impressed all the WardsAuto editors. It muscled its way back into the winners’ circle with remarkable horsepower per liter, and the engineers deserve kudos for reducing engine friction some 16 percent, which means it runs smoother and more efficiently.”

While the 2.0L four-cylinder was the award winner, the Cadillac ATS is also offered with a standard 2.5L four-cylinder and an available 3.6L V6. For questions about pricing and availability of the Cadillac ATS and its options, call Don Ledford Automotive in Cleveland at 423-476-1191. We also invite you to stop by our dealership, just a short drive from Chattanooga, for a test drive of the ATS or any other quality GM vehicle.

2013 Chevrolet Cruze Offers New Safety First

2013 Chevy Cruze

2013 Chevy Cruze

The Chevrolet Cruze already has a long list of safety features and designations to its name, but now it can add ground-breaking new airbag technology.

The Chevy Cruze was an IIHS Top Safety Pick in 2011 and 2012, and the 2013 Cruze earned highest ratings of “Good” in front, side, rear and rollover crash tests. The 2013 Chevy Cruze received the maximum 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score from the NHTSA in 2011 and 2012 with a dual-stage airbag system. This year, the Cruze was tested using new airbag technology and continued its history of safety excellence.

While now-standard dual-stage airbags deploy using different inflators for high-speed or low-speed crashes, the new system in the Cruze is simplified. The new single-stage airbag uses an inflator with lower output for all crash types. The new system is lighter and has a flexible vent, allowing forward momentum of the occupant to push some of the air out of the way. GM tests have shown that together, these features help prevent airbag injuries to drivers.

According to Gay Kent, GM general director of vehicle safety and crashworthiness, “This new air bag technology is a smart way to manage crash forces, and is an integral part of Cruze’s continued success in safety testing. The latest safety rating reflects the confidence we have in its new and carry-over safety technologies and overall crashworthiness.”

In addition to the innovative airbags, the new Chevy Cruze offers many other standard safety features. At its introduction, the Cruze was the first car in the class to offer 10 standard airbags, including the segment debut of front knee airbags. The Cruze also features Enhanced Smart Pedal/Brake Override, Panic Brake Assist, StabiliTrak stability control, and the GM OnStar safety system.

To see the advanced safety and technology of the 2013 Chevrolet Cruze, visit Don Ledford Automotive center online or in person at our dealership in Cleveland. For questions, including pricing and availability, please call 423-476-1191.

2014 Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra Debut New Engines

New engines for new GM trucks (2013 Chevy Silverado pictured)

The moment truck enthusiasts all over America have been waiting for has arrived – details about the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra have been officially released.

The most notable updates to the newest members of the General Motors truck family are found under the hood, in the three new EcoTec3 engines. These engines were designed with an advanced combustion system that will make the best use of technologies like continuously variable valve timing, cylinder deactivation, and the direct fuel injection system.

“We believe these are the most technologically advanced engines ever offered in light-duty pickups, and they are 100 percent truck – specifically designed for the way customers use trucks in the real world,” said Jordan Lee, Small Block chief engineer and program manager.

The new EcoTec3 engines were designed to give new flexibility and efficiency to the truck segment, providing large displacement that allows for rugged towing and powerful performance for the Silverado and Sierra when needed, while offering the ability to switch to four-cylinder mode for greater efficiency under lighter demands. Known as Active Fuel Management, this technology increases fuel economy, though specific numbers have not yet been released.

The new engines for the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra are all matched to six speed transmissions. EcoTec3 engine variations include the capable and budget-friendly 4.3L V6, the new 5.3L V8 that offers improved power and efficiency over the previous version, and the 6.2L V8 that GM expects to be the “most capable engine offered in any light-duty pickup truck.”

In addition to the three engines, the 2014 Silverado and Sierra will each be offered in three body styles and three box lengths. Unfortunately, they are not yet available for purchase, but Don Ledford Automotive Center in Cleveland has a full inventory of other new and used Chevrolet and GMC vehicles. Stop by for a test drive at our dealership near Chattanooga, or call 423-473-1191 to let a member of our team help you choose the perfect vehicle!

2014 Corvette C7 Revealed

Chevrolet CorvetteThe new Chevrolet Corvette C7 has only been driven by a handful of people in the world, and doesn’t officially debut until January, but video gamers now have the chance to take it for a virtual spin.

While some aspects of the seventh-generation Chevrolet Corvette remain disguised in the game, players of Gran Turismo 5 on Sony PS3 get a sneak peek. The prototype Corvette used in the game is camouflaged, but so realistically that it resembles any car spied on the test track. However, driving characteristics unique to the new Corvette, still being fine-tuned before the official debut, are present in the virtual car, making the driving experience authentic.

Like the six generations of Corvettes before it, the Corvette C7 can be downloaded for PS3 for no extra cost. Playstation players can race the test prototype on a variety of tracks, including the Nurburgring, test ground for the real Corvette C7 prototype.

Chris Perry, vice president of Chevrolet Global Marketing, said, “Until now, only the most skilled drivers on the Corvette team have been authorized to push the test prototypes to the limits on some of the most challenging track surfaces in the world. Through this unique collaboration with Gran Turismo, Chevrolet is able, for the first time, to give performance car enthusiasts access to such an exclusive driving experience.”

2014 Impala Features Updated Chevrolet MyLink Infotainment System

2012 Chevrolet Impala

The Los Angeles Auto Show is under way, and Chevrolet has used it as the stage to unveil the latest generation of the MyLink infotainment system.

The newest incarnation of Chevrolet MyLink will debut in the 2014 Chevy Impala, and will later expand to other 2014 Chevrolet models. Chevy reported that more than half of buyers of even less expensive models like the Sonic opt to pay more for infotainment, so updating and improving the system is a worthwhile investment. It is also a necessary one to stay competitive with other systems like Ford Sync and MyFord Touch, which will also be updated in 2014 models.

While MyLink will feature all of the expected amenities – navigation, weather, traffic, phone voice/text integration, music – the real changes lie in the new personalization of the system.

Chevrolet researchers used consumer interviews and online voting to develop four custom themes for MyLink, allowing drivers to choose the appearance of the interface for themselves. Themes include the uncluttered and efficient “Contemporary” design, the youthful and dynamic “Edge”, the neon-enhanced carbon fiber look of the “Velocity” for driving enthusiasts, and the bright and energetic “Main Street” design.

Matt Fuligni, design manager for Chevrolet User Experience, said that the new MyLink appearance was inspired by everything from smartphone icons to sports television graphics. In addition to the new theme options, accessed through the Settings menu, the new MyLink allows icons on the home page to be personalized for easy access.

Said Fuligni, “There is such a high level of attention, consistency and level of detail in the graphics on the cluster and center stack displays that they’ve become nearly as important to the overall interior look and feel as color and trim. We can’t design a custom Impala interior for every customer, but we can give them the next best thing.”

While we will all have to anxiously await the arrival of the 2014 Impala to dealerships, you can test drive a new 2012 Impala now at Don Ledford Automotive Center in Cleveland. With a 3.6L V6 engine offering 300 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque and a smooth, 6-speed automatic transmission, you’ll wonder why you ever drove anything else!

2013 Chevrolet Spark Easy to Afford, Easy to Drive, Easy to Maintain

2013 Chevrolet Spark

2013 Chevrolet Spark

Studies have shown that younger Americans are driving less and buying fewer cars, a trend that the 2013 Chevrolet Spark was designed to reverse.

With many young people, especially those in cities with public transportation, delaying driving and car ownership, the need for an inexpensive, easy-to-maintain, city-friendly car was obvious. Enter the Chevrolet Spark, which has a starting retail price of just under $13,000, can be parked virtually anywhere, and is a breeze to maintain.

According to GM engineer Jim Federico, “The Spark will appeal to young urban buyers who are always on the go. The Spark is perfect for these urban lifestyles because it is not only easy and fun to drive, but also easy to own.”

The Spark features Chevy’s advanced oil life system, which only recommends oil changes every 7,500 miles, or when the Oil Life Monitor detects the need for maintenance. If buyers take advantage of the Chevrolet Certified Service $29.95 gas saver bundle with oil change, they stand to save around $900 on oil changes alone over 150,000 miles, compared to a vehicle that needs an oil change every 3,000 miles. The Spark is also designed to use transmission fluid and electronic power steering fluid that are expected to last the life of the car.

The Chevrolet Spark is also equipped with an engine timing chain that requires no scheduled maintenance, rather than a timing belt. The Spark is also designed to go up to 100,000 before the spark plugs need to be changed, with is 36,000 farther than mini-car competitor Fiat 500 and 70,000 more miles than the Smart fortwo.

The Chevy Spark is also covered by a 6-year/100,000-mile rust-through limited warranty, 3-year/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty, and a 5-year/100,000-mile Powertrain Limited Warranty. And if anything does go wrong, the Spark is equipped with OnStar, which can send monthly diagnostic reports to alert drivers of any maintenance issues.

For more information about the Spark or another new Chevrolet, visit Don Ledford Automotive Center in Cleveland. We have an impressive selection of new Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac vehicles, as well as many quality used cars, trucks, SUVs and crossovers. 2013 Cadillac ATS Reviewed for Chattanooga Drivers

2013 Cadillac ATS (production photo)

2013 Cadillac ATS (production photo)

What’s so special about the Cadillac ATS? Just ask Chattanooga’s own Mark Kennedy of the Times Free Press, who recently took one for a spin.

In his column, Kennedy referenced the new Cadillac ad campaign, “Cadillac ATS vs. the World”, in which the ATS is shown conquering a variety of scenic terrain in exotic places like Monaco, Morocco, Chile and China. How did he think the ATS faired against “the World” and the car’s closest competitors?

Very well, it would seem. Kennedy wrote that the generous use of the Cadillac logo on most available surfaces helped him remember he was in a Cadillac, not the Audi A4 or BMW 335i – high praise considering that’s the very market they would like to corner.

Other highlights of the Times Free Press review include the opinion that the ATS is “a true driver’s car” that “let out an affirming roar and barreled through curves” and “was a blast to drive”. Standout features include “firm and supportive” leather seats, steering with “crisp handling and plenty of feedback”, and an interior with “thoughtful design elements”.

The 2013 Cadillac ATS is available in Standard, Luxury, Performance and Premium trim levels. The standard ATS is equipped with a four-cylinder engine and rear-wheel drive, but all-wheel drive is available, as well as a turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a V6 option. Manual and automatic transmissions are also available, depending upon trim level. Other available features in the 2013 Cadillac ATS include Bluetooth capabilities, Bose stereo system, auxiliary and USB inputs, and the Cadillac CUE infotainment system.

The bottom line of Mr. Kennedy’s review: “Time will tell if the ATS can duke it out with sports-sedan segment leaders. But give GM credit for giving this baby Caddy enough athleticism and refinement to at least give it a fighting chance.”

But don’t just take his word for it. Contact Don Leford Automotive Center or browse our inventory online to schedule a test drive of a new Cadillac, Buick, GMC or Chevrolet. We are happy to help drivers in Cleveland and Chattanooga choose the perfect new car for their needs.

Introducing the 2013 Chevy Malibu Turbo

2013 Chevy Malibu in Cleveland TN at Don Ledford Automotive Center

2013 Chevy Malibu in Cleveland TN at Don Ledford Automotive Center

You might think you know all about the Chevy Malibu, but did you know that the 2013 Malibu comes turbocharged? Now you do!

Chevy designed the Malibu with inspiration from the athletic stance of the Camaro. However, the streamlined body, with swept-back headlights and a grille with passive blockers, also brings the added advantage of reducing wind resistance and increasing fuel efficiency. As if those tweaks weren’t enough to enhance the performance of the new Malibu, Chevy threw a 2.0L turbocharged engine into the mix.

According to Mark Meyers, GM global vehicle performance manager, “The all-new turbocharged engine showcases just how capable the new Malibu is, and the turbocharged Malibu is perfect for customers who want a midsize sedan that is fun to drive under a wide range of real-world conditions.”

The Chevy Malibu turbo is available in LT and LTZ trim levels, with the LTZ adding luxury elements like LED tail lights and heated, leather-appointed seats to the long list of standard features available in the Malibu LT. The Malibu LTZ also offers optional 19-inch aluminum wheels in place of the 18-inch standard wheels.

But the real story is under the hood. The engine is given immediate throttle response by a twin-scroll turbocharger that optimizes power and eliminates almost all turbo lag. The Malibu turbo also features aluminum pistons, each with its own jet-spray cooling system that coats the underside of the piston and the wall of the cylinder with an extra lubricant layer to reduce friction and heat. The resulting engine produces peak torque of 260 lb-ft, delivers 259 horsepower, and boasts a zero-60 mph time of 6.3 seconds.

Other modifications to the Chevrolet Malibu turbo to enhance performance include a specially tuned exhaust, four-wheel independent suspension, premium electric steering, hydraulic bushings, and many others.

OnStar Gives Families of Young Drivers Peace of Mind

GM OnStar system helps parents stay in touch with teen drivers

GM OnStar system helps parents stay in touch with teen drivers

Don Ledford Automotive Center wants to keep all drivers safe, especially the youngest ones, and we are happy to sell vehicles equipped with the OnStar Family Link system from General Motors.

A recent article by USA Today chose the GM OnStar Family Link system as one of the best in-car technology used to increase safety and security for teen drivers. The same article cited a study in which the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety reported that 16- and 17-year-old drivers were in seven times more crashes per mile driven than drivers aged 40, 50 or 60.

The optional Family Link feature of OnStar uses Vehicle Locate to show the location of the car on map. This way, parents always know where their new drivers are, even when they can’t be with them. It is also a useful feature for other members of the family, even experienced drivers, to check on progress during long trips or in inclement weather.

The OnStar Family Link Vehicle Location Alert is concerned more with the end of the journey than the progress. They system can send emails or text messages to report the location of the vehicle at pre-programmed times or time intervals. This feature can be used to let a parent know if their child leaves for school on time in the morning, what time they left after-school activities and should arrive home, or if they’ve arrived home at the regular time but no parent is there to greet them.

OnStar is standard equipment in all new General Motors vehicles, and the OnStar FMV system allows access to the safety and security of OnStar to be added to cars of other brands. OnStar offers a full suite of driver safety and convenience features like crisis assistance, roadside assistance, automatic accident response, navigation, and a host of others.

Prices and plans vary, but the Family Link package is offered for an additional monthly charge of $3.99 with an existing subscription to OnStar. All OnStar services require a working battery/electrical system in the car and available GPS signals and/or wireless networks for communication.

Don Ledford Automotive Center cares about the safety of the drivers in Cleveland is happy to offer vehicles with OnStar capabilities. Visit our Buick, Chevrolet, GMC and Cadillac dealership near Chattanooga, Tennessee to test drive one of these vehicles or ask any questions about OnStar.

Chevrolet and Mattel Bring Hot Wheels Camaro to Life at SEMA

2013 Chevrolet Camaro

2013 Chevrolet Camaro

Lots of little kids love cars, and Chevrolet obviously thinks big kids should get to play, too, given their introduction of the new Chevrolet Camaro Hot Wheels Edition.

The partnership between Chevy and Mattel yielded the 1:1 scale Hot Wheels package available on coupe and convertible models of the Camaro 2LT V-6 and 2SS V-8. While a Hot Wheels-inspired concept car has been previously displayed, the one unveiled for the SEMA Show this week is actually scheduled to go into production. (See photos here.)

Chris Perry, Chevrolet’s Vice President of Marketing, said, “Millions of us grew up playing with Hot Wheels. Offering a special production model of the Camaro Hot Wheels is an opportunity to bring those memories to life, for kids of all ages.”

The Chevy Camaro with the Hot Wheels package will be available with Kinetic Blue paint with a matte black hood stripe. It will include 20” wheels with a red stripe to evoke memories of the redwall tires found on muscle cars and Hot Wheels cars in the 1960’s. The red details continue to the interior, where the seats have red stitching and embroidered Hot Wheels logos. The Hot Wheels logo is also found in the insides of the doors, the sill plates, front fenders, front grille, and above the tail lights.

Other design elements, borrowed from the Chevy Camaro ZL1, include a front splitter and rocker panel treatment, rear spoiler, ground effects. Upgrading a new Camaro 2LT or 2SS with the Hot Wheels package is an extra $6995, and it will be available early next year.

Kelley Blue Book Praises Cadillac CTS for Affordable Luxury

2012 Cadillac CTS - KBB Best Luxury Cars Under $40,000

2012 Cadillac CTS – KBB Best Luxury Cars Under $40,000

Kelley Blue Book recently released their list of 10 Best Luxury Cars Under $40,000, and the 2012 Cadillac CTS was ranked near the top of the list.

Hailing the 2012 Cadillac CTS as the start of “a design revolution at GM’s luxury division that continues to this day,” KBB called the CTS a worthy opponent for any Japanese or European competitor.

The 2012 Cadillac CTS is offered in mid-sized sedan, coupe and wagon models. All feature comfortable seats, a quiet cabin, and a balanced suspension that all work together to provide the ultimate in smooth rides. But to prove that smooth is far from boring, the CTS also offers enhanced performance, with the CTS-V sedan posting a 0-60 mph time of 3.9 seconds.

Technology was the stand-out favorite area of the CTS for KBB reviewers, who praised the Bose 5.1 cabin surround sound system and the car’s navigation system. The audio system offers iPod or other MP3 device integration from a USB port, but is also equipped with its own 40-gig hard drive for music storage. The “feature-packed” navigation system of the 2012 CTS has an 8-inch touch screen and offers 3-D imaging, voice recognition, and real-time weather and traffic reports.

Standard features of the 2012 Cadillac CTS include a 3.0L V6 engine offering 270 horsepower, paired with a six-speed manual transmission. There is also an optional 3.6L V6 engine that boosts the horsepower of the CTS to 318, and the CTS-V high-performance variant gets a supercharged V8 with 556 horsepower and manual or automatic transmission options. For safety, the CTS is equipped with six airbags, auto on-off headlamps, anti-theft system, traction and stability control, daytime running lights, and OnStar services.

Kelley Blue Book called the Cadillac CTS “a legitimate BMS 5-Series competitor at a 3-Series price.” To experience the luxury of the Cadillac CTS, test drive the 2013 model at Don Ledford Automotive Center in Cleveland. The 2013 model year added new paint colors, minor exterior tweaks, and some additional available options, but the superior style and performance remain the same. We also offer a large selection of Buick, GMC and Chevrolet vehicles, so Don Ledford Automotive Center is sure to have the perfect vehicle for the needs and budget of any driver in the Chattanooga area!

Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 One of Best Track-Ready Cars Under $60,000

2013 Chevrolet Camaro

2013 Chevrolet Camaro

Some cars are designed for suburban commutes, some for off-road adventures, and others for zipping through city streets. A few are designed specifically for flying around the curves of a track, and AutoGuide.com rated the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 one of the best track-ready cars to be had for under $60,000.

With a  supercharged 6.2L V8 pushing 580 horsepower, with a 0-60 mph time under four seconds, and a 7:41.27 lap time at Nurburgring, there is no doubt that the Camaro ZL1 has the potential to be a racing monster. But what makes it a best choice, according to AutoGuide.com?

With a magnetic ride system that allows up to 1,000 adjustments per second to the suspension settings, the Camaro is impressively responsive and easy to handle. Handling is further enhanced by the same new Performance Traction Management system found in the Corvette ZR1.

Performance Traction Management selects one of five driving modes most appropriate for road conditions. PTM2 is the default setting for dry conditions and PTM1 is only for wet roads. Moving through PTM3, 4 and 5 reduces the amount of management offered by the car, allowing drivers to loosen the handling and steer the car with the throttle. The PTM system can also be completely disabled for adrenaline-loving driving purists.

The Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 also offers automatic electric power steering, which adds stability by firming up at higher speeds. Combined with Goodyear G:2 Eagle F1 Supercar tires, this car should grip the road and take turns with the best cars on the track.

To take a spin in a new Camaro, visit Don Ledford Automotive Center in Cleveland for a test drive today. If you have no plans to hit the race circuit soon, we can answer any questions you have about Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac to help find the car that best suits your needs. GM Staying Quiet About Rumored New Chevy Silverado Truck Trim Level

2013 Chevrolet Silverado

2013 Chevrolet Silverado

While the details are still hush-hush, it has been leaked by dealers at Chevy dealer meeting that the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado might debut a new luxury trim level.

Reported by many sources, including Automotive News and MotorTrend, the new trim will be called the Silverado High Country, which was originally the name of a gold-laden Chevy Blazer package in the 1980’s.

This High Country, however, is rumored to be a direct assault on the Ford F-150 King Ranch, with one dealer reporting it to offer leather details and a “Western flair.” Dealers also reported that customers have been asking for a distinctive Silverado with a package they could ask for by name, as Ford dealership customers do when requesting the King Ranch F-150.

No pricing information for the Silverado High Country has been released, but the current top of the Chevy truck line, the Silverado 1500 crew cab LTZ, goes for around $43,500, including shipping. With that sticker price almost $4,000 less than the most expensive Ram pickup, and nearly $10,000 below the upcoming Ford luxury pickup, it will be interesting to see the pricing strategy Chevy uses to claim their place in the market.

GM also has current luxury offerings in the GMC Sierra line with the Sierra 1500 Denali, causing some to speculate if it is wise for GM to launch a competing Chevy model. However, the Cadillac Escalade EXT pickup is expected to be discontinued, leaving an opening for a new premium truck.

Details are expected to be officially announced by GM at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show in January. Until then, check back often for GM information, including updates on the Buick, GMC, Cadillac and Chevrolet family of vehicles, or follow Don Ledford Automotive Center on Facebook and Twitter to make sure you don’t miss anything. 2013 Cadillac Sedans Lead Luxury Class With All-Wheel Drive

2013 Cadillac XTS

2013 Cadillac XTS

With the release of the 2013 ATS and XTS, Cadillac is staging an impressive comeback in the luxury sedan class. One thing that puts them ahead of the game is their incorporation of all-wheel drive options into their new models.

In recent history, luxury sedans have been defined by a big, powerful engine pushing power to the rear wheels. Lately, however, almost half of luxury cars sold in colder areas of the United States are all-wheel drive, and sales are up by as much as 10% even in less snowy states.

Auto industry executives are forming the conclusion that all-wheel drive technology is the latest trend in the U.S. luxury car market.

Jim Vurpillat, global marketing director for General Motors Co.’s Cadillac brand, says “It’s not even a debate.” He believes that soon more car buyers will only seriously view a sedan as a luxury model if all-wheel drive is an available option. For that reason, Cadillac offers the technology in the new compact ATS, the large XTS, and the midsize CTS sedan.

Automotive industry supplier BorgWarner, which sells technology to Cadillac and other luxury brands, predicts the use of all-wheel-drive systems in luxury sedans will increase by around 8% each year through 2017.

Many believe all-wheel drive enhances the performance of the car, an idea supported by Audi Quattro and other similar systems. Instead of sending constant, equal power to all four wheels, the system continually shifts power distribution in response to data from the brakes, steering or other systems. Sending a small power boost to the tires on one side can help the vehicle more smoothly through turns even in dry conditions. Giving power to all four wheels can also boost acceleration.

One drawback of all-wheel drive technology has been the weight the system adds to the car, and the resulting drag on fuel economy. Director of product strategy for BorgWarner Corp.’s all-wheel-drive-technology business, John Barlage, says this can be reduced by use of improved electronics, substitution of lightweight aluminum for steel parts, and new designs that altogether eliminate old components.

To test drive a new 2013 Cadillac CTS or XTS and experience the all-wheel drive difference, or to learn about any of our other quality Cadillac, Buick, Chevrolet or GMC vehicles in inventory, call or visit Don Ledford Automotive Center. Expert sales associates are always happy to help you find the perfect car for your needs. You can also follow on Facebook and Twitter for the latest product updates and dealership news.

Boys and Girls Club of Cleveland Kicks Off Football Season With Don Ledford Automotive Center Partnership

Boys and Girls Clubs of Cleveland

Boys and Girls Clubs of Cleveland

A partnership between Don Ledford Automotive Center and the Boys and Girls Club of Cleveland is helping to kick football season off to a great start. The collaboration will raise funds for area youth football, providing coaches and players with money, equipment, and the chance to earn up to $10,000.

“GMC and youth football – it’s a great combination,” says Dwayne Pruitt of Don Ledford Automotive Center. “We are proud to be able to help the kids in our community by donating equipment and giving them the opportunity to raise much needed funds for their league. We are excited to be part of the effort this year, and anticipate a fun-filled season of Boys and Girls Club of Cleveland football.”

Don Ledford Automotive Center will supply football kits containing equipment like t-shirts, water bottle carriers, yard marker sets and helmet decals to the Boys and Grls Club of Cleveland.

National Buick and GMC dealerships will also donate a new 2013 Buick or GMC vehicle, worth up to $30,000, to assist leagues in fundraising. There will be one winner of the new car, and the second prize will be a new gas grill.

Any funds raised directly benefit participating leagues. Some leagues plan to implement grants to families who cannot afford league registration fees. Other possible uses are improvements to playing fields and other league facilities.

For more information about how to become involved, or for any other questions about Buick and GMC vehicles, contact us online or call our Cleveland dealership at (423) 476-1191.

General Motors Green Initiatives Grow Cadillac Urban Garden

General Motors recently unveiled a new project that offers many environmental and community benefits.

The Cadillac Urban Gardens is a community project that uses discarded GM materials and barren urban space to create a garden that can build community ties and feed the people who live there.

250 shipping creates from the General Motors Orion Assembly, where the Buick Verano and Chevrolet Sonic are assembled, were used to build raised garden beds in what was an unused Detroit parking lot.

“Instead of recycling this material, we found a direct reuse, which saves energy and resources. We seek opportunities for projects in our backyard that reduce environmental impact and strengthen communities,” said John Bradburn, GM’s manager of waste reduction efforts.

Several other Detroit businesses made the garden possible, including eight-time GM Supplier of the Year Winner, Ideal Group. “Our mission is to create a space that promotes the health and security of our community,” said Frank Venegas, Ideal Group chairman. “Cadillac Urban Gardens is producing vegetables, community health and growth.  This vision came true with fast action on the part of our collaborative partners.  In four short months, we are well on our way to linking sustainability with producing community growth.”

Detroit Dirt helped plan the garden and provided the soil obtained from composting efforts of many other organizations, including food and scraps from GM Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Plant, where the Chevrolet Volt is assembled. Many other companies offered time, services, and materials to make the project possible.

Tiny Chevy Spark Packs a Big Punch

2013 Chevy Spark

2013 Chevy Spark

Despite their stellar sales internationally, many auto industry experts were skeptical about the American success of micro cars like the Chevy Spark and the Scion iQ. However, sales numbers and survey results are showing that the tiny Chevrolet might not have been such a big gamble.

The Chevy Spark wasn’t a completely new model when it was released in the United States, just modified to meet safety and technology standards. So it already had a proven track record in many other countries, including being the best-selling Chevy in India and accounting for 40% of all GM sales in Lebanon. In other Spark trivia, pink is the favorite Spark color for South Korea, and in Australia, the Spark was originally offered with no automatic transmission option.

Here in the United States, the Chevy Sonic, big brother to the Spark, topped its segment in the J.D. Power and Associates APEAL study, despite Chevrolet posting below-average scores as a whole. The same study also showed that 27% of new car buyers bought a smaller car than their previous model, and were largely happy with their decision. The Chevy Spark is 14 inches smaller than the Sonic, with less cabin room, and sells for roughly $2000 less. The Spark also gets better gas mileage, at 32/38 city/highway mpg compared to 26/35 for the Sonic.

While there are still obvious limitations to owning a small vehicle, part of the allure of the Spark is that its tiny package still offers most of the same tech and safety features of other subcompact cars, including Chevrolet MyLink techonology, Bluetooth connectivity, USB ports, OnStar, and many others.

Visit Don Ledford Automotive Center for more information about the Chevy Spark or to test drive the Chevy Sonic or one of the other vehicles in our new Chevrolet franchise. We also have new Buick, Cadillac, and GMC vehicles to choose from, and will help you select the perfect one for your needs. Follow us on Facebook for updates on the Spark and other GM news.

Don Ledford Automotive Center Gives Away 2012 Chevy Sonic

Chevy Sonic winner from Don Ledford Automotive Center

Chevy Sonic winner from Don Ledford Automotive Center

Bridget Blankenship is the lucky winner of a white 2012 Chevrolet Sonic from Don Ledford Automotive Center in Cleveland!

The “Bow Ties Are Back” promotion, a celebration of Don Ledford Automotive Center’s newly acquired Chevrolet franchise, began August 7 at the My Mix 104.1 Family Expo at Cleveland’s Museum Center at 5ive Points. Twelve names were drawn and each person was given a key. Of the twelve keys given out at the Expo, only one would start the car. Each person with a key was given a chance to see if theirs was the winner.

This was the third year in which Don Ledford Automotive Center gave away a vehicle at the My Mix 104.1 Family Expo. We were happy to see the winner of the truck we gave away last year in attendance at this year’s festival as well.

The Chevrolet Sonic that Bridget received is an all-new release by Chevy, designed to replace the Aveo, and it has been accepted with rave industry and buyer reviews, ranked fifth out of 40 Affordable Small Cars by US News Rankings and Reviews. It is available in both a hatchback and sedan, with three trim levels, offering either 1.4-liter turbocharged or 1.8-liter normally aspirated four-cylinder engines.

For more information on the 2012 Chevrolet Sonic or any other Chevy, Cadillac, Buick, or GMC vehicle, visit Don Ledford Automotive Center in Cleveland online, or in person for a test drive. Also follow us on Facebook and Twitter for updates, because you never know where in the Cleveland and Chattanooga area we might appear next!
