Don Ledford Automotive Center, in Cleveland almost 30 years, has been notified they will retain the Buick, GMC, Cadillac franchises.
Announcement came today through a joint announcement by Debbie Ledford Melton, General Manager/Partner, Don Ledford Sr., founder/partner, and General Motors.
Don Ledford Automotive was among 2400 dealerships across the nation, notified in the summer of 2009 they would lose their GM franchise. Since that time, Melton has worked diligently on a local, state and national level, to regain the franchises and maintain the long standing tradition of her family’s business.
Located at 4595 North Lee Highway, Don Ledford Automotive Center, will begin a re-design for its lot and showroom in the near future. Melton said the re-design is part of our commitment to put our best foot forward and treat this as a new beginning. “What a perfect time of the year to focus on a new beginning,” she said. “It’s Spring and we have just celebrated a season that is the very best example of why we should be thankful for what God has given us. We consider this agreement to reinstate our franchises as a vote of confidence in the job we have done in the past and as a tribute to our loyal customers . And we will not take it lightly,” she said.
When GM announced its franchise decisions in 2009, Melton and her team of family, friends, employees and customers rallied together with a large show of support, hosting a special Rally Day at the dealership. Along with the event, thousands signed petitions to be sent to GM. Local and state government leaders joined customers who voiced their support, which included letters, emails and internet video endorsements.
Melton said “the customer support was a big part of our success and we will not forget that as we move forward and give our customers the very best in product and customer service.”
She noted: “it has been a very hectic few months, but the support has been overwhelming and it has kept me focused and ready to move forward. It has also given me time to develop a business plan that will give Don Ledford Automotive Center a new dimension when it comes to vehicle selections and service.”
With the announcement of the franchise renewals, Melton said she anticipates new vehicles to be arriving on the lot over the next few weeks. “We have managed to keep a good selection of 2010 and pre-owned vehicles and have had good sales during this time. Our employees have been tremendous, staying the course and helping me move forward with positive plans.,” she said. “ I really believe the best is yet to come now for Don Ledford Automotive Center in Cleveland. We are in a perfect location, a few seconds off exit 27 and in the heart of the shopping district. That is in our favor. We are highly visible and we plan to embellish that position even more in the future.”
Melton said “we cannot thank our customers enough for standing by us. And we look forward to making them an even more important part of our growth in the future.”

Cleveland, TN, November 23, 2009 – Don Ledford Automotive of Cleveland, TN will be holding DON LEDFORD GM CUSTOMER RALLY DAY on Monday, November 23, 2009 beginning at 10:00 AM. The motivation behind this event is the potential loss of Don Ledford’s GM franchise. As of October 2010, if everything remains the same, there will be no GM automobile representation in the Bradley County area. The area serves over 100,000 people.
“We know of other dealerships that have been reinstated because of community and government support,” states Debbie Melton, General Manager of Don Ledford Automotive. “We are trying to save one of the last hometown dealers in the Cleveland area.”
The rally will take place on the dealerships 28th anniversary. During these years Don Ledford Automotive has taken pride in serving the people of Bradley Country.
